How it works
How to use the camera color picker
- 01
Start the camera
Allow camera access when asked. On phones the rear camera is used by default.
- 02
Aim the reticle
The live HEX value updates as you move. Tap anywhere on the video to sample that spot.
- 03
Capture
Press the shutter or Space to save the color. Larger sample sizes smooth out sensor noise.
- 04
Freeze to refine
Freeze the frame to zoom to the pixel and extract the scene’s dominant colors.
Built for precision
Pixel-perfect, not “close enough”.
Most pickers make you click and hope. TryColorPicker shows you the exact pixels before you commit — and lets you average them when the image is noisy.
Live pixel loupe
An 11×11 magnified grid follows your cursor, finger or arrow keys with the HEX value before you click.
Zoom to 6400%
⌘ / Ctrl + scroll or pinch to zoom at the cursor. A pixel grid appears past 1400%.
Averaged sampling
Sample 3×3, 5×5 or 9×9 areas to cancel JPEG noise and dithering in photos.
Locate any color
Hover a dominant color and the rest of the image dims, revealing exactly where it appears.
From pick to production
Every format you need, ready to paste.
Copy any of 11 color formats with one click, generate Tailwind-style 50–950 scales, and export whole palettes as code, images or a share link.

FAQ
Camera color picker FAQ
Is the camera video uploaded?
No. Frames are read locally in your browser and the camera stops as soon as you leave the tab or press stop.
Why doesn’t the captured color exactly match the object?
Cameras adjust exposure and white balance, and room lighting tints everything. Use even daylight, avoid reflections and shadows, and average a 9×9 or 15×15 area for the most faithful result.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other modern mobile browsers. Use the switch button to flip between front and rear cameras.
Can I match a paint color with it?
It gives you a close digital starting point. Lighting changes how paint looks, so confirm with a physical swatch under the light where the paint will be used.
